Reviews

A somewhat confusing book. It starts at a very basic level with a chapter on opening Elements 2020 and very basic edits. However, in Chapter 2, it jumps into basic photography and discusses different cameras and various types of equipment. The next chapters discuss organization and cataloging images. Later chapters do a fair job of explaining more advanced edits but the authors seem to want to teach more about basic photography and organization than details on editing. Some subjects are omitted completely or barely mentioned. Adobe Camera Raw, an integral piece of Photoshop Elements, is completely ignored and omitted along with the handling and adjustments of RAW images from the camera. In fact raw images are never mentioned. Any worthwhile discussion of photo editing and serious photography should include the post processing of raw images. The authors must assume that everyone shoots only jpgs. Another subject barely mentioned are psd files. These are the native and preferred method for Photoshop files yet I can find only one line in one paragraph concerning psd files.I really wanted to like this book but I am disappointed. Most of these Dummies books are pretty good but this one is lacking.
